Street Studio- Infecting the City

Had an amazing turn out at the latest Street Studio this weekend in Cape Town city center, this time as part of the festival Infecting the City.

the long wait - a collaboration with Faith47

Faith47- "miners are waiting for justice. workers are waiting for a living wage.
people are waiting for service delivery. refugees are waiting for assistance.
men are waiting for jobs. we are all waiting for an honest politician.

so many people are waiting for others to do things first. to take the blame.
to do things for them. to take the fall. to build the country. to admit defeat.
there has been so much waiting in this country that much time has been lost.

my good friend alexia webster had also been thinking about the long wait.

she allowed me to reference some of her beautiful photographs

and somehow my paintings found their way onto corners and streets of a city in south africa rumored to have been built by gold

it is the first installment of my solo exhibition

' fragments of a burnt history' which will soon unfold at the david krut gallery in johannesburg on november the 8th."

Blikkiesdorp Temporary Street Studio

On the 18th July in Blikkiesdorp, a barren government built informal settlement on the outskirts of Cape Town, myself together with  Charlie Shoemaker and Asanda Kaka, set up a temporary photo studio on a dusty street. Equipped with lights and a portable photo printer, we photographed anyone who wanted formal family or individual portraits. The photo was printed there and then for free for the participant to take home.

The African Cypher

I was camera operator on this multi-award winning feature length documentary 'African Cypher' on street dance culture in South Africa.
